INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
DIGITRADE
As an LAIB major at Clemson University, I am required to intern at a company related to my chosen language. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my internship with Digitrade was completed virtually.

Due to the pandemic, my experience with Digitrade was unique. We contacted each other via zoom and the teams app. Since one intern was in California, another in Hong Kong, and the company based in Tokyo, we had to coordinate together to meet at an appropriate time for all of us.

Despite this, my time at Digitrade was incredibly eye-opening. Most of my work was conducting market research on products the company could invest in and bring to Japan. This opened my eyes to a side of my business major that I had not previously considered. I learned that I really enjoyed finding information and compiling it for a presentation.

As part of my internship requirement, I wrote a reflective report in Japanese on my experience. You can download it below.
UPSTATE INTERNATIONAL
In 2022, before I left to Japan, I searched for an internship to gain experience in marketing. This was how I found Upstate International, a local Greenville, SC nonprofit.

At Upstate International, I learned many new skills. I learned how to document a website, how to use Constant Contact and multiple Adobe products, how to lead a conversation table and a language practice session, how to build and create a newsletter, and how to write media releases.

My work at UI was incredibly rewarding. I was able to meet so many people who do amazing work in the community and learn about the different nonprofit-led projects that were happening around me. I was able to participate in the events I helped write media releases for, which helped me see the outcome of my efforts. My time at UI was incredibly educational.
MUSEUM OF THE CHEROKEE
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was lucky to have the opportunity to work for The Museum of the Cherokee in South Carolina. At this internship, I was able to learn about local Native American history from the experts themselves.

I labeled artifacts, helped manage the sales table during events, and labeled and sorted their library. To do this, I had to learn the proper technique on handling artifacts, the Library of Congress sorting system, and many marketing/sales techniques to properly advertise the museum's sales shop.

Though this internship did not have much to do with the LAIB major, I pursued it because I believe that any opportunity can provide useful skills for the future. In result, the museum was what originally sparked my interest in working for nonprofit organizations.
